Background Information, Unit Outline, Teaching Resources, Assessment Task and Criteria Sheet

The following resources have been developed for year two teachers teaching the above design and technology strands from the Australian Curriculum.

The following unit outline describes an 12 - 14 lesson unit that identifies and provides resources for teaching the skills students will need in order to complete the assessment task given below. The unit outline allows time for completion of the assessment task after the unit is completed, however, please be aware that the task may not take the allocated amount of time depending on the level of understanding the students have.

The unit provides different opportunities for teachers to incorporate their own differentiation needs for students, however, the differentiation that is already incorporated includes powerpoint demonstrations for both auditory and visual learners, use of speech to text software for learners who need an alternative to typing as well as whole class, group and independent working time.

The assessment task and critera sheet available at the bottom of the page is one example of assessing the knowledge and skills gained throughout the unit. The document not only contains a suitable assessment task and criteria sheet for students but also a template that can be given to students  to assist with the structure of their assessment information.

The assessment task provides different opportunities for teachers to incorporate their own differentiation needs for students, however, the differentiation that is already incorporated includes visual and written instructions, scaffolding of information, step by step instructions, examples of expectations, use of speech to text software for learners who need an alternative to typing as well as whole class, group and independent working time.
